Our Major Sponsors

The following groups provide the talent and resources needed to make the Moshannon Valley Radio Network possible, and we are grateful for their support.

The Members of PARA, the Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association

The Moshannon Valley Radio Network (MVRN) repeater systems were designed, funded, and built by a team of PARA members who now operate and maintain them on a voluntary basis for the benefit of the community.

Centre County Government

Access to the Rattlesnake tower site is provided by Centre County government at no cost to PARA.

PaCom LLC

Access to the Sandy Ridge tower site is provided by PaCom LLC at no cost to PARA.

Ongoing Expenses

The continued operation of the repeater systems requires ongoing funding.

  • Insurance premiums are an annual expense. The insurance only covers the radio equipment that is located inside the building.
  • Antennas and related components are not covered by insurance. Antenna failures are rare, but they can be expensive to fix due to the necessity of hiring a certified tower climber.
  • Backup batteries allow the repeaters to keep working during a power outage. The batteries have a limited lifetime and need to periodically be replaced.
  • Technology doesn’t stand still. As new products and technologies become available, it may be desirable to make periodic improvements to the repeater network in order to provide the best possible service for the community.
